AT&T Deploys Geo Modeler AI to Predict and Optimize Network Performance Nationwide

AT&T introduced its new Geo Modeler™, a Generative AI–powered system designed to predict, simulate, and optimize network performance in real time. The technology combines synthetic data with a Network Foundation Model (NFM) to analyze and adapt to rapidly changing network and environmental conditions, enhancing connectivity during both everyday operations and extreme events such as hurricanes.

According to AT&T’s official blog by Raj Savoor, VP of Network Analytics and Automation, the system uses advanced ray-tracing techniques to simulate radio transmissions across complex geospatial environments. If a cell tower fails, Geo Modeler can instantly analyze the disruption and reconfigure neighboring sites to minimize coverage gaps—sometimes by automatically adjusting antenna angles. The AI integrates with multiple internal systems to automate decision-making, providing near real-time insights that improve performance and resilience across AT&T’s nationwide mobile network.

Beyond disaster response, Geo Modeler supports planning for large-scale events and emerging use cases such as drone-based first responder operations, optimizing both flight paths and network connectivity. The system also lays groundwork for future AI-driven APIs in connected vehicles, enabling adaptive, self-healing network behaviors that ensure service continuity for consumers, enterprises, and emergency teams.

• Geo Modeler uses Generative AI and synthetic data to simulate dynamic network environments

• Supports auto-healing, disaster recovery, and proactive network optimization

• Enhances coverage planning for events and emerging drone and vehicle applications

• Fully deployed nationwide across AT&T’s mobile network infrastructure

• Builds on AT&T’s Network Disaster Recovery (NDR) program and AI-driven automation initiatives

“Mobile network operators have immense challenges in ensuring optimal coverage and availability. The ability to predict these parameters in near real-time delivers significant value,” said Will Townsend, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. “AT&T’s Geo Modeler demonstrates strong visibility and capability to dynamically facilitate the uptime demanded by consumers, enterprises, and first responders.”

🌐  Analysis: Geo Modeler reflects AT&T’s deepening commitment to AI-native network operations, following earlier automation projects like its Open RAN initiatives and AI-powered capacity planning tools. As operators worldwide explore generative AI for network control—Verizon with its Intelligent Edge platform and Nokia with its AVA AI suite—AT&T’s nationwide deployment positions it as an early leader in self-optimizing, AI-assisted networks capable of rapid adaptation under real-world stress conditions.
