AWS Powers Amazon’s Q3 Growth with 19% Revenue Surge

Amazon reported strong financial results for Q3 2024, highlighted by an 11% increase in total net sales to $158.9 billion. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) segment, a key driver of Amazon’s growth and profitability, saw a robust 19% year-over-year increase in revenue, reaching $27.5 billion. AWS’s performance reflects an expanding demand for cloud and AI services as businesses increasingly look to AWS for advanced solutions to support cloud migrations, AI workloads, and scalable computing. AWS’s operating income for the quarter also saw significant growth, reaching $10.4 billion, up from $7.0 billion in Q3 2023, underscoring its role as a profitable segment for Amazon.

AWS continued to advance its technology and service offerings, announcing new collaborations and product launches aimed at enhancing cloud infrastructure and AI capabilities. Strategic partnerships, such as a collaboration with Databricks, emphasize Amazon’s commitment to accelerating AI-driven custom model development on AWS infrastructure. Additionally, AWS has introduced new compute-optimized EC2 instances powered by the latest Graviton4 processors, designed to offer improved performance for memory- and compute-intensive applications. AWS also inked agreements with major global enterprises, including T-Mobile, Sony, Toyota, and Capital One, highlighting its traction with large-scale cloud customers.

AWS Key Financial and Operational Highlights:

• AWS Revenue: $27.5 billion, up 19% YoY.

• AWS Operating Income: $10.4 billion, up from $7.0 billion in Q3 2023.

• Major Partnerships: Collaborations with Databricks for custom AI model development, AWS Trainium chips as preferred AI hardware for Databricks Mosaic.

• New Product Launches: Graviton4-powered EC2 instances with enhanced performance; Oracle Database@AWS for seamless Oracle workload migration.

• Enterprise Cloud Growth: Signed agreements with major companies, including The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, Booking.com, Epic Games, Itaú Unibanco, and Veeva.

• Global Expansion: Announced a £8 billion investment over five years in the UK, supporting 14,000 jobs annually.

• AI Innovations: Released new foundation models in Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker to enhance generative AI capabilities for customers.
