AWS Rolls Out Physical Terminals for Faster Data Migration

AWS has introduced AWS Data Transfer Terminal, a physical facility designed to accelerate data uploads to the AWS cloud. Located in Los Angeles and New York, these terminals offer businesses direct, high-speed connections to transfer massive datasets securely to Amazon S3, Amazon EFS, and other AWS services. Customers can book time slots to upload data, addressing use cases that require fast, secure, and periodic bulk data transfers.

• Location and Accessibility: Facilities are currently available in Los Angeles and New York, with reservations required.

• High-Speed Connection: Supports high-throughput uploads, significantly reducing transfer times compared to traditional internet-based methods.

• Key Use Cases:

• Media & Entertainment: Transferring large video production datasets.

• Automotive: Uploading training data for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

• Financial Services: Migrating legacy data securely.

• Industrial and Agricultural: Transferring equipment sensor data.

• Integration: Uploaded data can be leveraged for analytics with Amazon Athena, machine learning via Amazon SageMaker, and scalable applications using Amazon EC2.

AWS states, “Data Transfer Terminals simplify and speed up the process of moving data into AWS, giving customers more time to innovate and process critical workloads.”
