Broadcom announced a new security-based client management system aimed at helping IT managers to more securely and cost-effectively manage client devices within their enterprise networks.
BroadSAFE combines hardware-based identity management and authentication with FIPS-certifiable key management software. Broadcom plans to incorporate this technology into its networking silicon product lines, including IP phones, enterprise and small-to-medium sized business (SMB) switches, broadband processors and security processors.
OEM customers would have the option of providing a factory-installed identity (i.e. key or digital certificate) that is stored securely within silicon. To achieve an equivalent capability using today’s existing security technology would require embedding a FIPS-compliant HSM (hardware
