At VMware Explore 2024 in Las Vegas, Broadcom announced significant enhancements to its Software-Defined Edge portfolio, aiming to support the growing demand for Edge AI workloads. Key updates include enhanced connectivity options, deployment simplifications, and improved lifecycle management capabilities across its VMware VeloCloud and Edge Compute Stack products. These advancements are designed to meet the increasing need for robust and secure edge computing solutions as enterprises expand their AI and non-AI workloads at the edge.

Broadcom introduced new VMware VeloCloud Edge appliances and enhancements to existing models, integrating Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and satellite connectivity for better real-time performance and resilience. Additionally, Broadcom announced the integration of VeloCloud and Symantec points of presence (PoPs), automating cloud access with enhanced performance and security. To simplify deployment and management of Edge AI workloads, VMware Edge Compute Stack now includes features like zero-touch orchestration and comprehensive edge monitoring.

• Enhanced Connectivity: VMware VeloCloud Edge 710, 720, and 740 appliances now support combined broadband, FWA, and satellite connections for improved real-time traffic at the edge.

• PoP Integration: Initial integration of VeloCloud SD-WAN PoPs with Symantec PoPs enhances cloud connectivity, offering higher bandwidth, lower latency, and better security.

• Deployment Simplification: VMware Edge Compute Stack introduces zero-touch orchestration, pull-based architecture, and comprehensive monitoring for efficient management of edge infrastructure and applications.

“We’re focused on enabling enterprises to adopt Edge AI workloads,” said Sanjay Uppal, vice president and general manager of the Software-Defined Edge Division at Broadcom. “We offer enterprises a comprehensive approach to connectivity at the edge, allowing them to build and optimize networks for today’s and tomorrow’s workloads.”
