CAMARA, the Global Telco API Alliance under The Linux Foundation, has announced its first major release, offering 25 APIs designed to provide seamless access to network functions. The “Meta-Release Fall24” includes APIs for crucial functions like SIM Swap, Number Verification, and Edge Discovery. This marks a significant milestone in CAMARA’s mission to improve interoperability and accessibility for telco network APIs, which can be utilized by developers, operators, and businesses to build applications across telecom networks.
Since its inception in 2021, CAMARA has grown rapidly, now consisting of 396 companies and over 1,100 contributors. The project, which originally began with 22 partners, focuses on fostering collaboration between network operators and developers by offering a consistent and reliable set of APIs. The APIs are designed for use across various sectors, including telecommunications, cloud services, and enterprise applications, with an emphasis on scalability, security, and ease of implementation.
The Meta-Release includes stable APIs that support key network capabilities, along with new APIs for applications like Carrier Billing and Call Forwarding. These APIs are backed by rigorous security standards, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID, ensuring privacy and secure access. CAMARA’s release is expected to help drive broader adoption of open APIs across industries, promoting faster innovation and simpler access to telecom network functions.
• 25 APIs released across 13 sub-projects
• Stable APIs include SIM Swap, Number Verification, Edge Discovery
• New APIs cover Carrier Billing, Call Forwarding, and more

“This milestone is a significant step forward in our mission to enable seamless access to telecom network capabilities through open APIs,” said Nathan Rader, Board Chair of CAMARA and VP, Service and Capability Exposure at Deutsche Telekom.
“CAMARA’s rapid growth is testament to the need for telco network APIs to become more open, more accessible and easier to monetize,” said Arpit Joshipura, General Manager, Networking, Edge and IoT, at the Linux Foundation. “The community’s first official, milestone release further enables active, open collaboration in the development and availability of more connected solutions. We encourage operators, cloud providers, application developers, hyperscalers, and aggregators, and technology vendors to partner with CAMARA in making these solutions even more accessible.”
“Ericsson (including Vonage) are committed to making CAMARA successful, and we are key contributors to the upcoming CAMARA-Meta Release. This release brings the first set of stable APIs to the market, in parallel to new and updated beta-level APIs for market validation. Together with our customers, partners and the CAMARA community, we are excited about the continuing journey of unleashing the innovation potential of open Network APIs enabling the digital transformation of society,” said Per Beming, Chief Standardization Officer, Ericsson.
