Taiwan-based Centera Photonics, in collaboration with NewPhotonics, introduced the industry’s first 1.6 Tbps optical transceiver module featuring the NewPhotonics NPG10201 photonic integrated circuit (PIC) with a monolithically integrated laser and modulator. Built for OSFP form factor and 200G/lane DR8 applications, the new module targets hyperscale data centers and AI factories demanding greater performance, energy efficiency, and manufacturability. The NPG10201 delivers eight channels of 224Gbps transmission with on-chip lasers, dramatically simplifying packaging and eliminating traditional external laser coupling.

Centera’s new pluggable module benefits from reduced power consumption, improved thermal management, and streamlined assembly, helping hyperscalers accelerate deployments of 1.6T infrastructure. The highly integrated silicon photonics transmitter-on-chip (TOC) enables better signal integrity, tighter module layouts, and manufacturing scalability. The combined DSP and NPG10201 solution brings a new level of performance and power efficiency to AI-driven networking, setting the stage for more widespread adoption of all-optics architectures.

Key Features of the Centera 1.6T Transceiver:

• First 1.6T OSFP transceiver using NewPhotonics NPG10201 PIC with integrated laser

• 8-channel design supporting 200Gbps/lane (DR8), delivering 1.6Tbps total

• Integrated DSP co-packaged with NPG10201 for optimal signal processing

• Eliminates external laser coupling, improving yield, thermal efficiency, and system reliability

• Ultra-compact, low-power OSFP module optimized for AI and hyperscale data centers

• Built-in array optics simplify assembly and reduce process cycle time

• Enhanced PCB and thermal design improve performance and signal integrity
