Cisco reportedly is dropping its ūmi telepresence system for the home. The news was first reported by CRN magazine.
Cisco ūmi, which was introduced in October 2010, combined an HD video camera, a console and a remote. It was positioned as a premium home telepresence system with pristine video and audio quality delivered over a broadband connection. The system offered dynamic resolution scaling based on available bandwidth (1080p, 720p, and 480p supported).
However, Cisco priced the consumer gadget at $599 a piece and each unit required a $24.99 a month subscription service, in addition to broadband service.http://home.cisco.com/en-us/telepresence/umi/
