Coherent Corp. launched its high-speed indium phosphide (InP) photodiodes, now available for production. The new devices are tailored for the next generation of 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers, leveraging 200 Gb/s PAM4 optical lanes. Offered in singlet and 1×4 array configurations, these photodiodes integrate lenses for efficient optical coupling and are compatible with major 4-channel and 8-channel transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs).

The photodiodes provide a broad optical response range from 900 nm to 1650 nm and high responsivity at 1310 nm, crucial for longwave fiber-optic communication. They deliver a 3 dB bandwidth of over 50 GHz, maintain low capacitance of 50 femtofarads (fF), and exhibit minimal dark current. Designed for advanced performance, the arrays come in two flip-chip pad configurations, enabling seamless integration with high-performance TIAs while adhering to RoHS standards.

Coherent plans to ship these photodiodes in sample quantities now, with wider availability scheduled for Q1 2025. Kou-Wei Wang, Vice President of InP DML & Photodiodes, highlighted the product’s impact, saying, “Their high bandwidth and excellent optical characteristics allow our customers to develop high-speed optical transceivers with an additional performance margin.”

• Designed for 800G and 1.6T transceivers with 200 Gb/s PAM4 optical lanes.

• Available in singlet and 1×4 array configurations with integrated lenses.

• Operates across 900 nm to 1650 nm with high responsivity at 1310 nm.

• 3 dB bandwidth > 50 GHz, 50 fF capacitance, and low dark current.

• RoHS compliant, compatible with 4- and 8-channel TIAs.
