Colt Sells Eight European Data Centres to Refocus on Digital Infrastructure

Colt Technology Services has announced the sale of eight data centres located in key European cities to focus on its core digital infrastructure strategy. Six of the facilities—located in Amsterdam, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich—will transfer to NorthC, a data centre provider based in the Netherlands. The remaining two data centres in London will go to a separate UK-based data centre business. Both buyers are backed by funds managed by DWS Group. The deal is expected to close later in 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

The data centres were originally part of Colt’s 2023 acquisition of Lumen’s EMEA assets. Approximately 400 colocation customers will transfer to the new operators as part of the sale. However, most of these customers also purchase Colt network services and will continue as Colt clients. Colt will retain network infrastructure within the divested data centres and continue operations through interconnects and partnerships, including a new collaboration with NorthC.

Colt’s network spans over 40 countries and connects 32,000 buildings via 275+ Points of Presence and 10 subsea cable systems. The company also co-manages AS3356, one of the world’s most widely-peered internet networks. The divestment allows Colt to concentrate on delivering cloud-scale connectivity and supporting enterprise adoption of AI and digital services.

  • Colt is selling 8 European data centres, including 2 in London and 6 in continental cities.
  • Buyers include NorthC and another UK-based firm, both backed by DWS Group.
  • About 400 colocation customers will transfer, but most will remain Colt network clients.
  • Colt retains network equipment and access in the divested data centres.
  • The transaction supports Colt’s focus on digital infrastructure and AI-driven growth.

“We’re pleased to have entered into this agreement to divest our data centres to NorthC and to the funds managed by DWS Group. The sale will enable us to focus on our strategic imperatives of driving growth, delivering exceptional customer experience and building a sustainable network for the future,” said Keri Gilder, CEO, Colt Technology Services.
