Comcast achieved a major milestone with the first live deployment of CommScope’s Full Duplex (FDX) DOCSIS amplifier in Comcast’s network, enabling the delivery of multi-gig symmetrical services. This new amplifier, now in service, is the result of years of collaboration between the two companies to develop cutting-edge DOCSIS 4.0 technology. The FDX amplifiers, which allow upstream and downstream traffic to share the same spectrum dynamically, will help Comcast extend the capabilities of its hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) network, offering faster, more reliable Internet to millions of customers across the U.S.

The introduction of FDX DOCSIS amplifiers marks a significant advancement in Comcast’s efforts to scale its DOCSIS 4.0 deployment, following the launch of multi-gig symmetrical services in 2023. The amplifiers, deployed within Comcast’s existing network architecture, can work with up to six-amplifier cascades to deliver enhanced capacity and low-latency performance. These smart amplifiers feature embedded AI capabilities, providing Comcast with unprecedented service automation and network intelligence, ensuring a seamless transition to next-generation services.

CommScope also provided its OM6000 FDX node, which operates in the 5-85 MHz upstream band while dynamically sharing spectrum between upstream and downstream traffic. This innovation, combined with the FDX amplifiers, positions Comcast to meet increasing customer demands for faster and more reliable Internet services.

• Product: Full Duplex (FDX) DOCSIS amplifier, OM6000® FDX node

• Technology: DOCSIS 4.0, dynamic shared spectrum (108-684 MHz)

• Applications: Multi-gig symmetrical services, enhanced network automation, AI-powered service management

• Deployment: First live deployment in Comcast’s network; scaling across more markets

• Partners: CommScope and Comcast

• Showcase: SCTE TechExpo24, Atlanta, September 24-26:

“With this first CommScope Full Duplex (FDX) DOCSIS amplifier live in our network, we are positioned to accelerate the pace of our FDX DOCSIS 4.0 deployment,” said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer, Comcast.
