CoSine Adds Consumer Features to B-RAS

CoSine Communications expanded its focus in the consumer broadband market with two new Services-centric B-RAS features for its IPSX 9500 and 3500 Service Processing Switches. These features — Virtual Subscriber Identity (VSI) and Virtualized Multicast — give service providers the ability to offer more profitable broadband services. With CoSine’s VSI feature enabled on the IPSX, a consumer’s profile can be carried across all types of broadband access methods, enabling service providers to offer Anywhere Services. CoSine said that by creating a dynamic virtual instance of the consumer’s preferences in its IPSX, service providers can offer consumers specific levels of entertainment and information that can be accessed around-the-clock over any network type. Furthermore, a hardware-accelerated Virtualized Multicast capability enables service providers to pursue an Open Content Distribution model for third party video and real-time services. CoSine plans to make the IPSX with Services-centric B-RAS features generally available in Q2 2004 with an entry-level price of around $100,000. http://www.cosinecom.com
