DE-CIX activated the first AWS Cloud On-Ramp in Türkiye at its Istanbul Internet Exchange, giving enterprises and network operators direct and secure connectivity to Amazon Web Services. The new capability reduces latency compared to routing via Frankfurt or other distant hubs, while also lowering data transfer costs for users in Türkiye and neighboring regions.
The Istanbul on-ramp delivers enterprise-grade features such as low-latency, high-bandwidth connections, secure large-scale data transfers, and seamless hybrid cloud integration. It supports AI workloads, regulated industries, and compliance requirements by avoiding public Internet routing. DE-CIX emphasized the benefits for application performance and cost efficiency for businesses in the region.
The launch coincides with DE-CIX Istanbul’s 10th anniversary. On July 30, peak throughput at the exchange exceeded 500 Gbit/s, more than triple 2020 levels. In 2024, DE-CIX Istanbul saw an 18.5% increase in connected networks and handled 726 petabytes of data traffic, an 11% year-over-year rise. The exchange continues to serve as a strategic digital bridge between Europe and the Middle East.
- First AWS Cloud On-Ramp in Türkiye launched at DE-CIX Istanbul
- Direct local access to AWS reduces latency and data transfer costs
- Supports AI, hybrid cloud, and secure data transfers for enterprises
- DE-CIX Istanbul throughput set a record of 500 Gbit/s in July 2025
- 726 PB of traffic exchanged in 2024, up 11% year over year
“We’re excited that AWS users in Türkiye will also be able to benefit from these benefits thanks to DE-CIX’s opening of the first AWS Cloud On-Ramp in Istanbul,” said Berrin Özselçuk, AWS Türkiye General Manager.
🌐 Why it Matters: Localized AWS on-ramps reduce dependency on distant hubs, a key advantage for enterprises running latency-sensitive and data-intensive workloads. This strengthens Türkiye’s digital infrastructure and positions Istanbul as a strategic cloud interconnection hub for both Europe and the Middle East.
