Dell'Oro: Access Spending Robust in Q4

Revenue from telecom infrastructure equipment capable of providing high access network bandwidth, including EPON and GPON OLTs, VDSL DSLAMs, and DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS, grew 10 percent sequentially and 18 percent over the year-ago period during the fourth quarter of 2009, according to a newly published report by Dell’Oro Group.

The report shows that Huawei was the leader for both EPON and GPON equipment sales largely due to its status as lead vendor in the China market. Alcatel-Lucent held the top spot for VDSL and second spot for GPON due to being a primary supplier for AT&T’s U-verse and Verizon’s FiOS services, respectively. For CMTS sales, Arris held the top spot over Cisco for the third consecutive quarter.

“Upgrade projects driven by competition, increasing Internet traffic, government incentives, and operators’ desire to enable new revenue-generating services are all having a positive impact on equipment demand,” said Tam Dell’Oro, President of Dell’Oro Group. “High bandwidth VDSL, PON and Cable DOCSIS 3.0 access concentrator equipment are being deployed for these upgrades. As a result, each of these products had moderate to strong year-over-year revenue growth in the fourth quarter,” Dell’Oro added.
