Dell’Oro: 5G Fixed Wireless CPE Unit Shipments Jump 24% in 2024

Total global revenue for the Broadband Access equipment market increased to $4.8 B in 4Q 2024, up 3 percent Q/Q and 5 percent year-over-year (Y/Y), according to a new report from Dell’Oro Group. The gains in the quarter and the second half of the year were not enough to push 2024 into positive territory; however, as total spending for the year was flat from 2023.

“The first half of 2024 saw continued inventory corrections from 2023, while the second half of the year saw a return to more consistent, predictable purchasing,” said Jeff Heynen, Vice President with Dell’Oro Group. “2025 was supposed to be a growth year for the Broadband market. But continued high capital and labor costs, global economic uncertainty, and DOCSIS infrastructure equipment delays all threaten to hamper growth,” explained Heynen.

Additional highlights from the 4Q 2024 Broadband Access and Home Networking quarterly report:

  • PON ONT unit shipments surpassed 150 M for the first time, with all regions notching significant Y/Y gains to support new subscriber growth.
  • Spending on DOCSIS infrastructure declined 6 percent from 2023, though spending on DAA equipment and vCMTS platforms increased 19 percent and 24 percent, respectively.
  • Residential Wi-Fi Router shipments were flat Y/Y, despite an 8155 percent increase in Wi-Fi 7 unit shipments, driven by lower-cost dual-band units shipping in China.
