E-Band Supplies 80 GHz GigE Wireless Backhaul for Clearwire's 4G

E-Band Communications confirmed that its E-Link wireless platform is providing a hi-capacity backhaul solution for Clearwire’s 4G network. E-Band said its wireless technology is being deployed in a number of Clearwire’s 4G markets, with initial deployments in Chicago and Philadelphia. Financial terms were not disclosed.

E-Band’s Gigabit-Ethernet wireless point-to-point systems allow Clearwire to build wireless backhaul rings that carry multiple gigabits of traffic on the most advanced 4G network in the nation.

“We are truly excited to have been selected by Clearwire,” said Sam Smookler, CEO and co-founder of E-band. “Consumers have come to expect high speed internet access no matter where they are, and regardless of the device they are using. E-Band’s high-capacity radios provide the foundation for the network infrastructure that enables wireless carriers to offer their customers fast and reliable connections using their home or business PC’s, laptops or other mobile devices. Clearwire offers an internet experience comparable to that of a fixed broadband connection. With our E-Link 1000EXR backhaul solution, they have the extra capacity and bandwidth to grow their 4G network and subscriber base nationwide, while maintaining their commitment to industry-leading mobile broadband customer satisfaction.”http://www.e-band.com

  • In March 2010, E-Band Communications Corporation, a developer of 70/80 GHz point-to-point wireless backhaul solutions, announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement under which Aviat Networks will market and support E-Band’s radios worldwide. E-Band’s flagship product is the E-Link 1000EXR, a full duplex fiber-equivalent speed Gigabit Ethernet point-to-point radio which provides +22 dBm of output power and extremely low latency (<5us).
