Coherent Corp. has announced the availability of samples for its new analog optical multi-link modules featuring a detachable land grid array (LGA) interface. These modules are designed to support next-generation analog optical links operating up to the Ka-band, with applications targeting both terrestrial and space systems. The product is optimized for radio frequency over fiber (RFoF) applications, providing low power consumption and high throughput for industries requiring advanced RF systems. By utilizing optical fibers instead of traditional copper or coax cables, the modules offer higher link gain, reduced weight, and greater resistance to interference, making them ideal for high-frequency RF applications such as earth observation, intrasatellite communication, and phased array antennas.

Coherent’s new modules enable high-throughput RF links to operate efficiently at Ka-band frequencies and over long distances, offering a significant performance upgrade for modern RF systems. The use of flexible optical fibers allows for superior routing and increased channel count, providing enhanced performance compared to conventional coaxial cables. The company says its solution is among the first to offer multichannel analog optical links up to the Ka-band, helping to overcome the limitations of existing RF link technologies and supporting future advancements in high-frequency communications.

Alpha samples of the modules are available now, with general availability expected in late 2025. Coherent is also offering complementary products, such as high-speed detectors and lasers, to enhance these modules in point-to-multipoint configurations, ensuring customers have access to comprehensive, cutting-edge solutions for high-throughput RF systems.

Key points:

• Product: Analog optical multi-link modules with detachable LGA interface

• Frequency range: Up to Ka-band, supporting long-distance RFoF applications

• Features: Reduced weight, higher link gain, interference-resistant optical transmission

• Applications: Earth observation, intrasatellite communication, phased array antennas

• Availability: Alpha samples available now, general availability by late 2025

“Our new product platform sets a new standard in the industry, enabling multichannel analog optical links with frequencies up to the Ka-band,” said Dr. Karlheinz Gulden, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Coherent’s Laser Components and Subsystems Business Unit.
