ECOC25: Coherent Expands Optical Test Portfolio with New Analyzer and Filter Platforms

Coherent has launched two new optical test instruments aimed at accelerating the verification and deployment of advanced communications networks. The company introduced the WaveAnalyzer 200B portable optical spectrum analyzer and the WaveShaper 500B/X programmable optical filter, both designed to improve speed, accuracy, and efficiency in lab, field, and production environments.

The WaveAnalyzer 200B is the only battery-powered portable unit capable of delivering two full sweeps per second across the Super C-Band with 650 MHz resolution bandwidth. This enables engineers to assess network quality in real time, from research labs to live deployments. The WaveShaper 500B/X is targeted at optical transceiver production lines, where its ability to shape signal attenuation across the Super C- and L-Bands — more than 12.4 THz of spectrum — supports rapid, high-throughput testing. With a loading time of less than 100 milliseconds, it can shorten production cycles and reduce costs.

Both products build on Coherent’s existing platforms. The WaveAnalyzer 200B evolves from the WaveAnalyzer 200A and will be available in November 2025, while the WaveShaper 500B/X leverages the company’s established Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology, which has been deployed in thousands of units. Coherent will demonstrate both instruments at ECOC 2025 in Copenhagen later this month.

• WaveAnalyzer 200B: battery-powered, 650 MHz resolution, up to two sweeps per second across Super C-Band

• WaveShaper 500B/X: programmable filter, Super C- and L-Band coverage, 12.4 THz spectrum range, <100 ms load time

• Both products enhance lab, field, and manufacturing test applications

• WaveAnalyzer 200B ships November 2025; WaveShaper 500B/X leverages proven LCoS platform

• Demonstrations scheduled for ECOC 2025, Copenhagen, Sept. 29–Oct. 1

“These new instruments build on Coherent’s proven leadership in optical network test and measurement,” said Dr. Ralf Stolte, Sr. Sales and Marketing Manager. “By combining accuracy, speed, and portability, they enable our customers to keep pace with the demands of next-generation communications.”

🌐 Analysis: Coherent’s expansion of its WaveAnalyzer and WaveShaper lines underscores the rising demand for precision testing tools in next-generation optical networks, especially as operators scale Super C- and L-Band capacity to support AI, cloud, and high-capacity transport. Competing vendors such as EXFO, Viavi, and Yokogawa have also advanced their test portfolios in anticipation of 800G, 1.6T, and future coherent transmission rollouts. By combining portability with fine-grained resolution, Coherent is positioning its tools as essential for both field engineers and manufacturing environments.
