Ekinops will close its R&D subsidiary in Campinas, Brazil, by the end of 2024, focusing instead on its primary R&D center in Lannion, France. This decision affects 25 engineers who have been working on Optical Transport Network (OTN) technology since Ekinops acquired the division from Padtec in 2019. Ekinops Brasil has focused exclusively on research and development without any commercial activities in Brazil.
Ekinops projects the closure will save approximately €3 million annually, enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing the company’s cost structure. The Lannion R&D center, which recently expanded, is positioned to support increased staffing, reflecting Ekinops’ long-term commitment to innovation. Financially, the move will introduce a non-recurring accounting impact of around €8 million in FY 2024 due to provisions, impairments, and other expenses.
