Entone Secures $16 Million for its Video Servers

October 26, 2003
in Start-ups
A A

Entone Technologies, a start-up based in San Mateo, California, secured $16 million in second round funding for its video on demand (VOD) infrastructure solutions. Entone provides software for video servers and home entertainment gateways used in VOD and PVR applications. The funding round was co-led by Menlo Ventures, Palomar Ventures, and BA Venture Partners.

Entone said one of its strategic advantages is that it partners with leading server vendors, such as IBM and HP, allowing it to ride the innovation and price curves of off-the-shelf components. A single Entone StreamLiner Video Server can deliver 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps of video and contain over 800 hours of MPEG2 content.

  • Entone Technologies was co-founded by Mark Evensen (current Chairman), who previously was General Manager of Technology Development at PCCW HKTelecom and lead architect for their interactive television and Internet services, and by Tim Warren (current CTO), who previously developed a modernized betting system based on UNIX and TCP/IP for a large, Asian gaming concern.
