Eoptolink Demos 1.6T LRO Optical Transceivers

Eoptolink Technology is showcasing its 1.6T Linear Receive Optics (LRO) transceiver at OFC 2025, marking a step forward in power-efficient optical module design. The transceiver operates at 212Gbps per lambda and leverages a hybrid architecture that uses a retimer on the transmit path and a linear amplifier on the receive path—striking a balance between power savings and system performance.

The LRO approach, also referred to as Transmit Retimed Optics (TRO) or Retimed Transmit Linear Receive (RTLR), offers about 30% lower power consumption than fully retimed optics by removing the DSP on the receive side. This architecture eases thermal constraints in dense AI and cloud systems and improves overall system power efficiency. It also simplifies system qualification and enhances interoperability with legacy optics, helping vendors accelerate time-to-deployment.

At OFC 2025, Eoptolink is conducting live demonstrations of its 1.6T and 800G optical transceiver product lines—including LPO, LRO, and multicore fiber (MCF) variants—at booth #2943. These solutions target hyperscale and AI infrastructure operators seeking to reduce energy usage while scaling optical interconnect bandwidth.

• Eoptolink’s 1.6T LRO module runs at 212Gbps per lambda.

• LRO architecture uses a retimer on TX side and linear RX path, reducing DSP power draw.

• Achieves ~30% power savings vs. fully retimed optics.

• Enhances system-level thermal management and simplifies testing and qualification.

• Live demos include LPO, LRO, 800G, and MCF modules at OFC 2025 (booth #2943).

“LRO is a middle way between Linear Pluggable Optics (LPO) and fully retimed optics,” said Dirk Lutz, Distinguished Engineer, Eoptolink. “The TP2 and TP3 compliance on the optical side together with reduced power consumption is very attractive to system vendors and end customers.”
