Ericsson and Supermicro have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore a commercial bundle that combines 5G wireless connectivity with advanced Edge AI platforms. The collaboration targets enterprise customers deploying AI applications outside traditional data centers, where ultra-low latency, reliability, and mobility are essential. The bundled offering will simplify procurement and deployment of Edge AI by pairing Ericsson’s Enterprise Wireless Solutions with Supermicro’s modular AI systems.
This marks a significant intersection of connectivity and compute for edge environments. Ericsson, long active in transforming enterprise WAN infrastructure with 5G, SD-WAN, and network slicing, brings a wireless portfolio that can function as primary or backup WAN. Supermicro, known for its scalable edge AI platforms—from fanless boxes to rackmount systems—is expanding into deployments in challenging locations such as smart intersections, industrial floors, and remote healthcare facilities. These edge applications increasingly rely on AI inference, image recognition, and local sensor processing that require real-time response.
While the partnership is at the MoU stage, it reflects growing demand for integrated solutions that bypass the complexity of separate 5G and AI stacks. Potential verticals include retail (automated checkout and loss prevention), industrial automation (sensor-driven machinery control), smart traffic systems (adaptive management), and healthcare logistics. This alliance also aligns with Supermicro’s increasing focus on Edge AI showcased at NVIDIA GTC Paris, where the joint solution is being demonstrated.
• Ericsson and Supermicro to co-develop integrated Edge AI + 5G bundles
• Targets use cases in retail, industry, transportation, and healthcare
• Combines Ericsson’s wireless WAN and network slicing with Supermicro’s AI edge compute platforms
• Designed for rapid deployment and pre-validated performance in non-wired environments
• Joint offering will simplify edge AI procurement and deployment for enterprise IT and system integrators
“Supermicro delivers cutting-edge solutions that allow enterprises to harness the power of AI at the edge,” said Mory Lin, VP of IoT/Embedded & Edge Computing at Supermicro.
“Together, we have an opportunity to make it easier for enterprises to operate edge intelligence,” added Jonathan Fischer, VP, Global OEM & Embedded Partners at Ericsson.
