Ericsson has introduced seven 5G Advanced software products aimed at enabling communications service providers (CSPs) to create high-performing, programmable networks. The new offerings are designed to boost performance, improve user experience, and streamline operational efficiency, equipping CSPs to align network behavior with specific business goals. By enhancing radio access network (RAN) software, these products provide CSPs with advanced tools to navigate the demands of modern connectivity through AI-powered automation and service-awareness.
The 5G Advanced suite expands Ericsson’s RAN software capabilities, building on open network architectures and intent-driven networks to allow CSPs to fine-tune performance to meet service-level agreements (SLAs). Key innovations, including AI-powered RAN, Service-aware RAN, and Intent-driven networks, enable CSPs to state objectives and rely on the software to manage complex processes and optimize delivery. The 5G Advanced software supports Open RAN, Cloud RAN, and purpose-built RAN, ensuring compatibility with diverse infrastructure types.
Ericsson’s latest 5G Advanced products will be available as software subscriptions starting in Q3 2024, with commercial rollout continuing into early 2025. The subscriptions cover new capabilities tailored for real-time network demands and enhanced service quality. These include:
• Real-time AI-powered automation: Enhances network performance through real-time data and AI-driven processes.
• Outdoor Positioning: Provides GPS-supported and standalone 5G location services for enterprise and CSPs.
• Mission Critical Services: Supports public safety, defense, and first responders with resilient network continuity.
• RAN Differentiated Connectivity: Ensures SLA compliance across multiple services in parallel.
• Energy Efficiency and Management: Lowers operational expenses via AI-driven energy management.
• Premium Network Performance: Expands coverage and boosts capacity for high-traffic scenarios.
• Device Battery Performance: Improves battery life for devices on 5G through intelligent network adjustments.
Mårten Lerner, Head of Product Area Networks at Ericsson, noted, “With our 5G Advanced software, we are empowering service providers to move rapidly towards high-performing programmable networks, achieving their business objectives and paving the way for innovative applications that will transform industries worldwide.”
