MasOrange, Telefónica, Vodafone Group, and the i2CAT research center have launched Europe’s first multi-operator Open Gateway lab, marking a significant step in telecom innovation. The lab, based in Barcelona, provides a collaborative environment where developers and enterprises can access standardized telco APIs to build and test applications leveraging network capabilities. This initiative, part of the GSMA-led Open Gateway program, seeks to accelerate API adoption and foster innovation through performance testing, joint use case development, and industry-wide consensus on API deployment.

The Open Gateway initiative transforms telecom networks into programmable platforms, enabling operators to offer agile and interoperable services. Developed under the CAMARA open-source framework by the Linux Foundation and TM Forum, these APIs standardize development across telecom networks. This paradigm shift empowers operators to provide seamless network capabilities, fostering efficiency and improving the digital experience for businesses and end-users.

i2CAT will lead lab operations, coordinating performance testing and API development while driving the creation of new APIs tailored to industry needs. The lab will connect operators and developers, supporting tools and environments optimized for interoperability. By integrating telco capabilities into innovative applications, the lab ensures harmonized performance across networks. This collaborative effort aims to address real-world challenges faced by industries and administrations through advanced multi-operator capabilities.

• Key Points:

• The lab provides a collaborative platform for developers to access standardized telco APIs.

• It is part of the GSMA-led Open Gateway initiative to transform telecom networks into programmable platforms.

• APIs follow the CAMARA framework, ensuring single development compatibility with all telco networks.

• i2CAT coordinates lab operations, focusing on performance testing and new API development.

• The initiative supports industries by addressing challenges through innovative multi-operator capabilities.
