EXA Infrastructure Activates Route Linking London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Brussels

EXA Infrastructure has launched a new 1,200 km fibre route connecting London to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Brussels. The new route includes both terrestrial and subsea segments, enhancing digital infrastructure across key European internet exchange points. The deployment incorporates 1,085 km of new G.652D terrestrial fibre and a 115 km subsea cable segment between Margate (UK) and Ostend (Belgium) using ultra-low-loss G.654C fibre.

As the sole telecom member of the submarine cable consortium, EXA is responsible for landing party and backhaul services. The initiative includes the addition of two new cable landing stations—marking EXA’s 21st and 22nd globally—along with upgraded in-line amplifier (ILA) facilities across the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This is the first new subsea build on this route through the North Sea in 25 years, complementing EXA’s earlier investment in Channel Tunnel fibre.

“This is a real milestone for robust connectivity options in Europe,” said Steve Roberts, SVP Strategic Network Investments and Product Management at EXA Infrastructure. “It delivers scalable, modern and optimized fibre paths between key FLAP hubs.” COO Ciaran Delaney added, “The North Sea’s challenging seabed and complex European regulations required in-region expertise and advanced installation techniques. Our team rose to the challenge to deliver this next-generation system.”
