Ooredoo Group has partnered with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to develop the Fibre in Gulf (FIG) submarine cable, a major subsea infrastructure project that will connect Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. The system will provide low-latency, high-capacity connectivity between the Gulf region and Europe, supporting the increasing demands of hyperscalers, AI providers, data centers, businesses, and telecom operators.
The FIG cable will feature 24 fibre pairs with a total capacity of 720 Tbps, making it one of the largest submarine networks in the region. This initiative aligns with Ooredoo’s strategy to expand its digital infrastructure leadership, accelerate cloud adoption and AI-driven services, and strengthen network resilience. The company has also been advancing its presence in fintech, IoT, and GPU-based computing, becoming the first NVIDIA Cloud Partner in the region in 2024.
