From 400G to 1.6T and Up

April 27, 2025
in Video
A A

Coherent pluggable optics have rapidly advanced from 400ZR modules designed for simple point-to-point DCI links to more versatile ZR+ solutions that support longer reaches, advanced FEC, and flexible modulation. This evolution enables broader deployment across metro and regional networks, paving the way for higher data rates like 800ZR and beyond.

Tom Williams, VP, Marketing from Acacia provides perspective on this evolution:

– Industry is advancing from 400G ZR to 800G ZR/ZR+ with 1.6T optics on the horizon, demonstrating continued innovation
– Applications have expanded beyond metro DCI to include longer-reach networks, with new 400G UL technology covering over 3,000km
– Market adoption is accelerating with ZR/ZR+ now representing over 50% of coherent ports, driven by webscale customer demand
