Hexago Introduces IPv6 Home Access Proxy

Hexago, which specializes in IPv6 deployment solutions, introduced its Home Access Proxy 6 (HAP6), which allows the deployment of IPv6-based peer to peer (P2P) services and user generated content (UGC) services over IPv4 networks.

Hexago’s Gateway6 provides interoperability between IPv4 and IPv6. In conjunction with Gateway6, HAP6 provides a peer to peer (P2P) connection between the fixed or mobile host on the Internet and multiple IP devices in the home network. The two peers can be any combination of IPv4 and IPv6, including IPv4 Internet hosts connecting to IPv4 devices on an IPv4 private network. The HAP6 client is required to be present in the private network. The client can be in the form of software on the home computer, embedded software on devices such as a home gateway or the customer- premises equipment (CPE), or a Dongle6 provided by Hexago. No software is required for the host devices accessing the private network.

Fixed or mobile service providers could use the HAP6 to give all of their home/users its own URL, thereby enabling remote control of all IP devices in the home. Examples of HAP6 enabled services include camera, home automation, big big email, remote support, home station, home Web site, file sharing and buddy backup.

Hexago said HAP6 provides plug and play installation without any specific network requirements. That means that there is no need to configure the Network Address Translation (NAT) with port forwarding or any other configuration. As port forwarding isn’t used, it is also possible to have any number of services in the home. IPv6 ensures that all the devices are uniquely addressable, which means there is no limit to the number of devices supported in the home network.
