Huawei announced a prototype PON platform that delivers 40 Gbps downstream and 10 Gbps upstream. 
The system, which has been tested and certified by the China Telecom Beijing Research Institute, supports a 1:512 optical splitting ratio and a transmission reach of 20 kilometers.
