Keysight Technologies and Pegatron 5G have collaborated to validate energy-saving features in Pegatron’s Open Radio Unit (O-RU) using ETSI-specified energy measurement methods. Keysight’s Open Radio Access Network Architect Solutions (KORA) enabled Pegatron to achieve a 40% reduction in power consumption for its PR1450 O-RU while meeting O-RAN and ETSI energy requirements. The validation, conducted using Keysight’s E-Plane ETSI Test Suites, was demonstrated at the India Mobile Congress 2024.
The energy consumption of Radio Access Networks (RAN) represents 76% of the overall network energy use, making it a priority for operators aiming to reduce operational costs and meet environmental targets. The collaboration between Pegatron and Keysight highlights the importance of testing energy efficiency as 5G networks expand to meet growing data demands. By reducing the power consumption of the RAN, operators can better optimize their networks for future 5G deployments.
• 40% reduction in power consumption for Pegatron 5G’s PR1450 O-RU
• Achieved through Keysight’s KORA solutions using ETSI-specified energy measurement methods
• Energy measurement methods adhere to ETSI ES 202 706-1 and ETSI TS 103 786 standards
• Demonstrated at the India Mobile Congress 2024
• RAN energy consumption represents 76% of network energy use
• Collaboration aims to reduce network costs and meet sustainability targets
“We are proud to be the first company in Taiwan to demonstrate O-RAN energy saving and e-plane support on our PR1450 O-RU,” said David Hoelscher, Vice President of Business Development and Chief Product Officer of Pegatron 5G.
