Liberty Global Picks CommScope for DOCSIS 4.0 DAA in Europe

Liberty Global has selected CommScope to upgrade broadband access networks in several European countries with virtualized Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) and DOCSIS 4.0 capabilities. The rollout will impact key affiliates including VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands, Telenet (Wyre) in Belgium, and Sunrise in Switzerland. The move is aimed at delivering multi-gigabit broadband speeds and boosting network efficiency across competitive markets.

The deployment centers on CommScope’s vCCAP Evo™, a cloud-native virtualized Converged Cable Access Platform. This technology supplements existing CMTS/CCAP systems and positions Liberty Global to rapidly adopt next-generation headend architectures. Combined with the new DC2182 1.8GHz cabinet-style DAA nodes and integrated RD1710-U2 Remote PHY Devices, the upgrades will enable support for Extended Spectrum DOCSIS (ESD), improved spectral efficiency, and future-proof outside plant readiness.

With this upgrade path, Liberty Global aims to offer residential subscribers multi-gigabit download speeds—potentially up to 8 Gbps—while also reducing power consumption and operational complexity. CommScope’s platform offers operators a scalable, software-driven approach to DOCSIS 4.0 migration, tailored for the European broadband landscape.

• Liberty Global deploying DOCSIS 4.0 DAA upgrades with CommScope in Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland

• CommScope’s vCCAP Evo™ to enable cloud-native virtualized CCAP operation

• DC2182 cabinet node with RD1710-U2 RPD supports 1.8GHz ESD for higher throughput

• Upgrade enables multi-gigabit services (up to 8 Gbps), greater power efficiency

• Rollout supports Liberty Global’s shift to software-defined, scalable infrastructure

“CommScope went the extra mile for us and worked closely with our architecture, engineering and operations teams to develop a DOCSIS 4.0 network platform that would meet or exceed our specifications,” said Colin Buechner, managing director Fixed Network, Liberty Global.
