Microsoft reports a robust start to fiscal year 2025, driven by continued strength in its cloud services and solid growth across multiple segments. For the quarter ending September 30, 2024, revenue reached $65.6 billion, up 16% from the same period last year. Microsoft Cloud, one of the company’s primary growth engines, generated $38.9 billion in revenue, a 22% increase year-over-year. Operating income grew 14% to $30.6 billion, while net income increased 11%, totaling $24.7 billion, with diluted earnings per share at $3.30.
Revenue from Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Processes segment rose 12% to $28.3 billion, spurred by growth in Microsoft 365 for both commercial and consumer markets. Intelligent Cloud revenue surged 20%, driven by a 33% jump in Azure and other cloud services. More Personal Computing revenue climbed 17%, with Xbox content and services revenue seeing a notable 61% boost due to the Activision acquisition. Microsoft also returned $9.0 billion to shareholders via dividends and share repurchases during the quarter.
