NBN Co released its Annual Service Improvement Plan for FY26 (ASIP-26), outlining a wide-ranging set of initiatives to modernize its broadband network and enhance service delivery across Australia. The plan builds on consultations with Retail Service Providers (RSPs) and follows the completion of key milestones from ASIP-25. The initiatives cover capital and operational investments through 30 June 2026, with a strong focus on fibre upgrades, customer experience, network simplification, and regional connectivity.
Central to ASIP-26 is the continued expansion of Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) upgrades. By the end of calendar year 2025, NBN Co aims to make FTTP available to approximately 5 million additional premises currently served by FTTN and FTTC. The long-term target is to enable over 95% of the remaining 622,000 FTTN premises to receive fibre upgrades by 2030. Other highlights include the “Accelerate Great” program launching in September to introduce new multi-gigabit speed tiers on FTTP and HFC, education efforts for better in-home setup, and streamlining home-move connectivity.
NBN Co also spotlighted the completion of its $750 million Fixed Wireless network upgrade, which increased network cells from 23,000 to 100,000, significantly enhancing rural coverage. In parallel, it is continuing strategic upgrades to the HFC and transport networks to support future service models such as Distributed Access Architecture (DAA). The company has submitted a Replacement Module Application to the ACCC for the next regulatory cycle, proposing updated Benchmark Service Standards from FY27 to FY29.
• NBN Co targets 3.5M FTTN and 1.5M FTTC premises for FTTP eligibility by end of 2025
• $750M Fixed Wireless upgrade completed, expanding network cells to 100,000
• New “Accelerate Great” speed upgrade program launches in September for FTTP and HFC
• Education campaign to improve in-home broadband setup and performance
• Simplified FTTP upgrade path for underperforming FTTN/FTTC lines
• Investments in evolving HFC for reliability and DAA-readiness
• Digital tools and AI enhancements to improve RSP engagement
• Replacement Module Application lodged with ACCC for FY27-FY29 regulatory cycle
“Our ASIP-26 highlights our major initiatives aimed at delivering great outcomes for customers and retailers,” said Anna Perrin, Chief Customer Officer at NBN Co. “We are making significant progress on our multi-year network and customer service improvement projects… preparing the nbn network to meet customers’ evolving broadband needs while striving to deliver greater value, capacity, speed and improved reliability.”
🌐 Why it Matters: NBN Co’s ASIP-26 marks a critical acceleration point in Australia’s multi-technology mix upgrade strategy. By prioritizing FTTP availability and investing in next-gen HFC and wireless infrastructure, NBN is aligning its network to meet rising consumer and enterprise demand for ultra-fast broadband, particularly as AI workloads, smart home usage, and remote work continue to increase. Regulatory transparency via the ACCC process also signals a more performance-focused future for Australia’s broadband landscape.
