NextWave Wireless Announces 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) Roadmap

NextWave Wireless disclosed its product roadmap to deliver LTE network solutions to mobile operator customers beginning in 2009. The company’s LTE solution will initially be based on NextWave’s V5 multi-standard base station platform which currently supports 3GPP-based UMTS ER7 TD-CDMA, has been deployed by operators around the world and is field upgradeable to WAVE 2 compliant 802.16e-based WiMAX standard. NextWave expects to begin shipping its pre-commercial, LTE-enabled V5 base stations to support mobile operator trials in the second half of 2008.

NextWave’s LTE roadmap also includes LTE-enabled Series 3000 Micro and Pico base stations which are based on the company’s current Series 1000 and Series 2000 base station lines. Optimized to provide low-cost gap-filler and hot-spot coverage, the Series 3000 base stations, in combination with NextWave’s LTE-enabled V5 macro base station platform, are designed to deliver world-class performance while significantly reducing upfront network deployment and ongoing operational costs.

NextWave said its ER-7 UMTS TD-CDMA V5 platform, which began shipping in 2007, has the digital capacity and interfaces needed to simultaneously support multiple WWAN technologies. In addition, NextWave’s V5 platform supports MIMO, both TDD and FDD implementations, a broad range of channel bandwidths, and the most popular spectrum bands allocated around the globe for mobile broadband services. Utilizing a pair of optical interfaces, the V5 platform’s digital chassis supports multiple, co-located RF shelves or remote RF radio heads, in multiple frequency bands, for a multi-antenna arrangement with MIMO and beamforming capabilities.http://www.nextwave.com
