TIM Brasil (TIM) has selected Nokia to expand 5G radio access network (RAN) coverage across 15 Brazilian states, starting in January 2025. This collaboration aims to extend the reach of secure, ultra-high-speed 5G connectivity to more municipalities, enhancing digital access for both individuals and enterprises. By expanding 5G coverage, TIM and Nokia are committed to driving innovation, fostering economic growth, and ensuring that more people and businesses in Brazil can benefit from the advanced capabilities of 5G technology.

The partnership will see Nokia deploying a comprehensive range of equipment from its AirScale portfolio, including baseband, Massive MIMO radios, and Remote Radio Head products, all powered by Nokia’s energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. In addition to hardware, Nokia will provide TIM with its intelligent MantaRay Networks Management system, which utilizes AI for enhanced network monitoring and management. The deal also includes digital deployment, optimization, and technical support services to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout of the 5G network.

  • Geographical Reach: Expanding 5G coverage across 15 Brazilian states.
  • Technology: Includes Nokia’s AirScale portfolio with ReefShark technology.
  • Management: TIM will utilize Nokia’s AI-powered MantaRay Networks Management system.
  • Service Support: Nokia will offer deployment, optimization, and technical support services.
  • Start Date: Rollout begins in January 2025.

Marco Di Costanzo, CTO at TIM Brasil: “This agreement is a significant milestone…benefiting industries and consumers with new services.”

Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia: “Our best-in-class, energy-efficient radio solutions will play a key role in achieving this goal.”
