Nokia Leads with Open Standards for WiFi and Broadband App Mgt

Nokia has introduced a major update to its Corteca software suite, making it the first platform to support open standards for WiFi management and application lifecycle in home broadband environments. The suite now integrates prpl lifecycle management (prpl LCM), the Open Container Initiative (OCI), and the Broadband Forum’s TR-369 protocol, enabling seamless interoperability across devices and applications. With these open standards, operators can efficiently manage WiFi networks and applications in multi-vendor environments, enhancing flexibility and reducing operational challenges.

The Corteca platform enables operators to install, update, and manage broadband applications using a consistent, standardized approach. By supporting prpl LCM, the Corteca Developer Toolkit allows third-party providers and communications service providers (CSPs) to build applications that are compatible across different broadband devices. Operators can leverage TR-369 to offer a unified and scalable WiFi management experience, free from vendor lock-in, while opening up new opportunities for monetization through a growing catalog of value-added services.

Corteca’s cloud-based management system improves in-home WiFi performance and offers operators a B2B marketplace for selecting and deploying partner applications. Nokia’s adoption of open standards fosters innovation across cybersecurity, gaming, diagnostics, and more. As broadband environments become more complex, operators can deploy services faster, with better reliability, and more personalization for their customers.

About the standards and protocols

Corteca complies with World Broadband Alliance (WBA) Operator Managed WiFi reference architecture v1. The framework combines multiple available standards to streamline Wi-Fi data collection, Wi-Fi management, configuration, and optimization of home networks, simplifying the analysis and decision-making process for carriers.

The prpl Life Cycle Management (prpl LCM) is open-source, platform-independent software that leverages common high-level application programming interfaces (API), giving service providers an ideal platform to manage value-added applications. Prpl LCM is an open-source project that works with open industry standards, such as the Open Container Initiative (OCI) and the Broadband Forum TR-369.

TR-369, also known as User Services Platform (USP), is a Broadband Forum standard that provides a unified platform for managing connected devices, Wi-Fi, and applications in the home. It enables service providers to deliver consistent and reliable management across a variety of devices and services, ensuring interoperability and reducing operational complexities.

The Open Container Initiative (OCI) is an open governance structure for the express purpose of creating open industry standards around container formats and runtimes.
