Nokia Partners with ZCorum on DOCSIS to Fiber Transition App

Nokia is working with ZCorum to develop a DOCSIS Provisioning Adapter (DPA) application, aimed at simplifying the transition to fiber for cable operators. The DPA solution allows operators to use existing DOCSIS-based provisioning systems to provision Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) and subscriber services on a Passive Optical Network (PON). This software-based adapter offers a gradual and cost-effective approach to migrating from DOCSIS to Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) without overhauling legacy infrastructure.

As cable operators move to upgrade networks for higher performance, scalability, and reliability, many are turning to PON-based FTTH solutions. Nokia’s DPA application helps MSOs leverage their current DOCSIS-based systems while enabling a seamless shift to fiber deployment. The DPA, integrated with Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller, creates an interworking layer that simplifies the management of fiber services. This approach accelerates time-to-market and distributes costs for operators transitioning to FTTH.

The Nokia DPA will be available for lab trials by late 2024 and will launch through the Nokia Altiplano marketplace, which provides operators with ready-made automation tools and open APIs for customization. Nokia will showcase the DPA at SCTE TechExpo 24 in Atlanta, GA, this September.
