Nokia Rolls Out Mass-Market 25G PON Modems

Nokia has introduced two new 25G PON fiber modems designed to bring mass-market multi-gigabit and 10G+ broadband speeds to residential customers. The new indoor optical network terminals (ONTs) deliver speeds up to 20 times faster than existing gigabit solutions, enabling service providers to offer premium multi-gigabit broadband over their existing fiber infrastructure at a more affordable price point.

The modems operate on the same fiber networks currently used for GPON and 10G PON services, allowing operators to easily scale up to 25G PON by reusing their existing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) infrastructure. This deployment model allows providers to accelerate time-to-market while offering consistently higher speeds to all subscribers simultaneously. The 25G PON technology is already in use by 17 operators globally, including Google Fiber, Frontier, and Hong Kong Broadband, as customer demand for faster residential broadband driven by cloud applications, Wi-Fi 7, gaming, and remote work continues to grow.

The new residential ONTs complement Nokia’s broader 25G PON portfolio, which includes the Lightspan FX, DF, and MF fiber access platforms (OLTs), enterprise-grade ONTs, and sealed 25G PON fiber access nodes for cable operators. Nokia has already deployed nearly 2 million 25G-capable ports globally, with the latest modems designed to provide operators with an efficient upgrade path to meet growing bandwidth demands.

• Nokia introduces two 25G PON ONTs to enable mass-market multi-gig and 10G+ broadband services for residential users.

• The new modems deliver up to 20x faster speeds than current gigabit broadband solutions.

• Compatible with existing GPON and 10G PON fiber networks for cost-effective upgrades.

• Nokia’s 25G PON technology is currently deployed by 17 global operators, including Google Fiber and Frontier.

• Part of Nokia’s broader 25G PON portfolio, which includes OLTs and solutions for both residential and enterprise applications.

“We have close to 2 million 25G-capable ports in the field already. These new 25G PON fiber modems provide a simple, efficient way to boost capacity and stay ahead of growing demands,” said Geert Heyninck, General Manager of Broadband Networks at Nokia.
