Nokia has been awarded a significant contract by Deutsche Telekom (DT) to deploy over 3,000 sites as part of the operator’s multi-vendor Open RAN (O-RAN) network rollout in Germany. This deal marks Nokia’s return to Europe’s largest telecom operator, replacing the previous vendor in the areas covered by the agreement. Nokia’s contribution will include its O-RAN-compliant 5G AirScale portfolio, featuring ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, as well as Habrok Massive MIMO radios designed to deliver high-capacity, premium coverage and robust performance in a multi-supplier Open RAN environment. The deployment is already underway in the Neubrandenburg area of Northern Germany, signaling the start of a large-scale expansion that is expected to enhance network performance and capacity.
As part of this partnership, Nokia will also provide its AI-powered MantaRay NM solution for intelligent network management, alongside digital deployment and optimization services. The contract underscores Deutsche Telekom’s commitment to Open RAN technology and its strategy of increasing supplier diversity. Nokia said its role in the deal reinforces its position as a leader in O-RAN solutions, integrating seamlessly with other vendors such as Fujitsu, which will supply mid-band remote radio head products. With this collaboration, Deutsche Telekom aims to modernize and scale its radio access network while ensuring consistency, security, and resilience across the infrastructure.
