Nokia is integrating Intel’s new Xeon 6 processors with Efficient-cores (E-cores) into its core network infrastructure, delivering up to 60% power savings and a 150% performance increase over previous-generation deployments. This marks a significant step in the companies’ long-standing collaboration aimed at enhancing network efficiency and sustainability across 5G workloads.
The energy and space savings come as Nokia upgrades its NFVI v5.0 and Core Networks Applications to support the Intel Xeon 6780E CPU, paired with Intel’s Infrastructure Power Manager (IPM). The new platform offers high-density, load-aware compute capabilities while reducing server footprint by 60%. These improvements align with growing telecom operator demands for greener, cost-efficient 5G core deployments.
Trials with cloud service providers have already validated measurable reductions in power consumption using IPM, with Nokia planning full support for the Xeon 6 and IPM in its upcoming Packet Core Application v25.7. Nokia says the joint innovation effort enables scalable, energy-efficient network modernization with no compromise in reliability.
