The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has awarded over $117 million in the latest round of grants from the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund. This funding aims to accelerate the development of open and interoperable wireless networks, fostering greater competition, reducing costs, and strengthening global supply chain resilience.

The grants will support nine projects focused on open radio unit innovation and commercialization, requiring collaboration with mobile network operators to ensure commercial viability. The $1.5 billion Wireless Innovation Fund, established through the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, has now distributed over $530 million to advance next-generation wireless technologies, with $420 million still available for future projects on a rolling basis.

Key Highlights:

• Total Award: $117,369,604 awarded to nine projects.

• Purpose: Drive open and interoperable wireless networks for stronger supply chains and lower costs.

• Focus Area: Open radio unit innovation and commercialization.

• Funding Source: Part of the $1.5 billion Wireless Innovation Fund from the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.

• Remaining Funds: Up to $420 million available for future projects.

These investments aim to position the U.S. as a global leader in wireless technology while creating new opportunities for domestic and allied companies in the network equipment market.
