O2 Czech Republic has become the nation’s first mobile operator to deploy a 5G Standalone (SA) Core, selecting Nokia’s cloud-native solution to power its next-generation mobile network. The rollout will enable O2 to offer advanced services such as network slicing, enhanced security, and ultra-low latency performance, while also boosting energy efficiency and streamlining network operations through near zero-touch automation.

The deployment aligns with O2’s broader cloud-first strategy and leverages Nokia’s 5G Core software, including its Packet Core, to support service delivery in multi-cloud environments. This upgrade enhances the mobile experience for O2 subscribers, improves battery life on 5G devices, and allows the operator to launch new services faster—without vendor lock-in for analytics and data management. Nokia’s platform also enables O2 to increase network flexibility and scale operations more efficiently.

Nokia currently leads the global 5G SA Core market with 52 operators in live deployment and 125 CSP customers overall. Its fully cloud-native core network solutions offer operators like O2 a path to modernize both 4G and 5G infrastructure within the same architecture, enabling seamless transition and simplified management.

• O2 Czech Republic is the first in the country to launch a 5G SA Core

• Nokia 5G SA Core delivers slicing, lower latency, and greater security

• Deployment supports O2’s cloud-first strategy and open analytics

• Enables near-zero-touch automation and improved energy efficiency

• Nokia leads globally in 5G SA Core deployments with 52 live operators

“Deploying Nokia 5G SA Core closely aligns with and bolsters O2 Czech Republic’s cloud-first strategy and delivers more secure communications to our customers,” said Jakub Votava, Network Director at O2 Czech Republic.
