Ooredoo Qatar has selected Ericsson to enhance 5G connectivity and network performance across the country by deploying advanced Radio Access Network (RAN) and microwave backhaul solutions. The agreement includes the expansion of indoor and outdoor sites, spectrum refarming, and the deployment of newly acquired spectrum for 4G, 5G, and mmWave. Ericsson’s AI-driven RAN and interference reduction technologies will improve coverage and connectivity in high-density urban environments and remote areas where fiber infrastructure is unavailable.

As part of the contract, Ericsson will introduce a multiband microwave solution, enabling high-capacity backhaul of up to 25 Gbps by integrating E-band (70/80 GHz) with traditional frequency bands. This will strengthen Ooredoo’s 5G coverage in underserved areas, ensuring seamless connectivity and improved network efficiency. The deal also includes the nationwide deployment of a new 5G layer using 2.3 GHz spectrum, modernization of power systems, and mmWave expansion for hotspot locations. 3G spectrum refarming will further optimize efficiency, while NR 700 technology will enhance 5G coverage and capacity.

• Ooredoo Qatar partners with Ericsson to expand 5G network and improve connectivity.

• Ericsson will deploy advanced RAN and microwave solutions, including Massive MIMO and MINI-LINK.

• Multiband microwave solution enables up to 25 Gbps backhaul in remote areas.

• Deployment includes new 5G layer on 2.3 GHz spectrum and modernization of power systems.

• Upgrades include 3G spectrum refarming, NR 700 introduction, and mmWave expansion.

• The investment enhances Ooredoo’s 5G consumer experiences and enterprise services.

“Our partnership with Ericsson marks another significant step in our enduring commitment to delivering the latest and most efficient network solutions for our customers in Qatar,” said Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar. “With Ericsson’s support, we are confident in furthering Qatar’s leadership in 5G connectivity, delivering world-class experiences to our customers, and opening up new possibilities in enterprise services.”
