June 3, 2025 – A consortium of major automotive and semiconductor companies has launched the OpenGMSL Association (OGA), a non-profit group aiming to establish a global open standard for high-speed, in-vehicle video and data connectivity. The effort builds on Analog Devices’ (ADI) Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) technology, which has already shipped over one billion chips and been adopted by more than 25 OEMs and 50 Tier 1 suppliers.
Backed by founding members including ADI, Qualcomm, GlobalFoundries, DENSO, indie Semiconductor, Keysight Technologies, Hyundai Mobis, and others, OpenGMSL targets a broad range of applications across autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and infotainment. The goal is to provide an interoperable ecosystem where components from multiple vendors can seamlessly communicate, reducing integration costs and accelerating time-to-market.
The OpenGMSL standard mandates compliance testing to ensure multi-vendor interoperability. Its architecture is designed to support both high-speed video and data transmission, making it a foundational element in next-generation vehicle connectivity. OGA will also be featured at AutoSens Detroit, June 10–12, 2025, where it aims to drive interest across the industry.

“With over 1 billion GMSL ICs shipped and adoption by more than 25 global OEMs and 50 Tier-1 suppliers, GMSL is one of the most mature and road-proven high-speed video link technologies in the automotive industry. OpenGMSL builds on this strong foundation to accelerate innovation across autonomous driving, ADAS, and next-gen infotainment — growing an already thriving ecosystem into an open, collaborative future,” said Paul Fernando, President of the OpenGMSL Association.
