PacketLight Intros 1.6Tbps Muxponder for DCI and AI Networks

PacketLight Networks unveiled its PL-8000M 2x800G Muxponder, a high-capacity optical transport solution designed to support next-generation network demands. Capable of delivering up to 1.6Tbps using two 800G pluggable OpenROADM coherent optical modules in a compact 1U form factor, the PL-8000M is optimized for data center interconnect (DCI), AI, cloud computing, and service provider networks. Its integrated optical layer components, including mux/demux, EDFAs, and an optical switch, simplify deployment and reduce operational costs.

The PL-8000M supports 100GbE, 400GbE, and 800GbE services with a pay-as-you-grow architecture, enabling scalability to meet future requirements. The device ensures seamless interoperability with third-party switches and routers, offering a full demarcation point for enhanced network visibility and performance monitoring. Additionally, it includes Layer-1 GCM-AES-256 encryption and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) support, ensuring secure communications for high-capacity data transport.

With applications spanning enterprise and cloud data center interconnects, managed optical transport, and upgrades to existing DWDM/OTN networks, the PL-8000M enhances efficiency and reduces the number of coherent transceivers required. PacketLight Networks CEO Koby Reshef emphasized the solution’s role in addressing modern optical network challenges, highlighting its cost efficiency, flexibility, and robust security features tailored to meet the connectivity demands of emerging technologies and AI-driven infrastructure.
