Preformed Line Products (PLP) and Lightera have introduced a joint compatibility program that enables cost-effective, space-efficient FTTx network builds by combining PLP’s closures with Lightera’s rollable ribbon cables. The collaboration aims to simplify last-mile fiber deployments by leveraging compact, high-density infrastructure that can be installed in smaller handholes, reducing both material and labor costs.
The program pairs PLP’s COYOTE® STP Pro Series and DTC closures with Lightera’s DuctSaver and AccuRoll cables, supporting 144 to 288 fiber counts in a highly compact footprint. Originally developed for high-density data center applications, Lightera’s rollable ribbon technology is now being adapted for broader use in FTTx networks. PLP estimates this approach can lower distribution costs by up to 30% compared to traditional flat ribbon or loose tube deployments that require bulkier closures and larger access points.
Lightera, based in Norcross, Georgia, is a global provider of advanced optical fiber and connectivity solutions, with expertise spanning telecommunications, data centers, 5G, AI infrastructure, aerospace, and industrial sensing. The company is part of the Furukawa Electric Group, a multinational leader in optical communications. PLP and Lightera will showcase the integrated solution at Fiber Connect 2025 in Nashville.
