Reimagine precision network timing

In order to maintain optimal network performance and reliability, precision timing plays a crucial role. All nodes within a network must be synchronized in time with a high degree of accuracy. For instance, in a 5G network, synchronization between all nodes must be maintained within a few hundred nanoseconds, which is tenfold more stringent compared to 4G. It is imperative to ensure such consistent synchronization despite the occurrence of any network outages.

Piyush Sevalia, Executive Vice President of Marketing from SiTime, discusses the company’s MEMS-based, oven-controlled oscillator (OCXO) that delivers an ultra-stable clock to datacenter and network infrastructure equipment:

– The increasing intelligence and connectivity of electronics is placing a significant operational burden on networks. Precision timing plays a crucial role in ensuring the network functions optimally, making electronics faster, safer, and more reliable.
– In high-speed networks, every node needs to be synchronized or time-aware with any other node. This requires a specialized device called an OCXO (Oven Controlled Oscillator) which provides time to each of these network nodes. SiTime’s OCXO maximizes the amount of holdover that the network can have, making it more reliable.
– SiTime’s OCXO outperforms traditional quartz devices in terms of Allen deviation, warm-up time, power consumption, and footprint. It’s based on MEMS resonator, analog oscillation circuits, and compensation algorithms to ensure optimal performance.
