Samsung Electronics has begun mass production of its latest PCIe 5.0 SSD, the PM9E1, aimed at AI-powered PCs. Built with Samsung’s in-house 5nm controller and eighth-generation V-NAND technology, the PM9E1 is designed to meet the needs of on-device AI applications with improved performance, storage capacity, and power efficiency over its predecessor. Sequential read and write speeds have doubled, reaching up to 14.5GB/s and 13GB/s, respectively, making it one of the fastest PC SSDs on the market.

The PM9E1 offers storage capacities ranging from 512GB to 4TB, with the 4TB model catering to users handling large files such as AI-generated content, high-resolution videos, and data-heavy programs. The SSD is optimized for demanding workloads like gaming and AI applications, enabling faster data transfer even for models as large as 14GB. Additionally, the new SSD boosts power efficiency by over 50%, extending battery life and making it ideal for portable devices that rely on on-device AI processing.

In terms of security, the PM9E1 includes advanced features such as the Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) v1.2, which provides Secure Channel, Device Authentication, and Firmware Tampering Attestation. These measures protect against supply chain attacks, ensuring data integrity during production and distribution. Samsung plans to expand its lineup of advanced SSDs for the global market, further strengthening its position in the AI-enabled PC sector.

• 5nm controller and eighth-generation V-NAND improve performance and power efficiency.

• PCIe 5.0 interface enables sequential read speeds up to 14.5GB/s and write speeds up to 13GB/s.

• Available in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities.

• Power efficiency improved by over 50%, extending battery life for on-device AI applications.

• Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) v1.2 offers enhanced security features.

YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said, “In the rapidly growing on-device AI era, Samsung’s PM9E1 will offer a robust foundation for global customers to effectively plan their AI portfolios.”
