Sensory's Pattern Matching Pushes DPI to 160 Gbps

Sensory Networks announced a new benchmark for its pattern matching software for accelerating deep packet inspection (DPI) platforms.

Sensory’s HyperScan library has delivered DPI throughput of 160Gbps with linear scalability, based on an intensive benchmark of HyperScan on a dual-socket platform (8-core, 16 threads per socket) using the new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 family and Intel C604 chipset, scanning against a tier-1 commercial IPS signature set. HyperScan fully scales across Intel architecture, extending from the Intel Atom™ processor to the highest performing Intel Xeon processor.

“This is the latest in a series of HyperScan benchmarks we’ve published that validates our strategy: to use software to transform processor real estate into scalable security performance?, said Sab Gosal, CEO for Sensory Networks. “HyperScan is a pattern matching library designed to drop into a vendor’s system software release and be used for an entire product line, without requiring any additional software or hardware resources. This type of streamlined integration and scalability presents a compelling proposition for equipment manufacturers looking to build out DPI.”

“This benchmark represents a significant leap forward in HyperScan performance?, said Geoff Langdale, CTO for Sensory Networks. “We reported 32Gbps on the Intel Xeon processor E5400 series (Harpertown) when it was first released, using the same benchmarking setup and then 73Gbps on the Intel Xeon processor E5500 series (Nehalem). Continued advances in HyperScan’s scanning algorithms, coupled with underlying improvements in Intel micro-architecture and core count, have helped push our DPI throughput by a factor of 5 within just 3 years. We expect this performance scaling to continue as new architectures emerge in the coming years.”http://www.sensorynetworks.com
