A newly formed Silicon Photonics Industry Alliance (SiPhIA), spearheaded by SEMI alongside TSMC and ASE, aims to accelerate next-generation semiconductor technologies by focusing on silicon photonics. Backed by over 30 companies and research institutions, this alliance seeks to address the increasing demand for faster data transmission and lower power consumption in AI data centers and high-performance computing (HPC). SEMI, a global association connecting over 3,000 companies in the semiconductor supply chain, has facilitated the alliance, positioning Taiwan to lead in silicon photonics development.
The alliance will foster collaboration across the semiconductor value chain, leveraging Taiwan’s advanced manufacturing and packaging capabilities to build a comprehensive silicon photonics ecosystem. SEMI projects the global silicon photonics market to reach $7.86 billion by 2030, with a 25.7% CAGR. By uniting key players like Foxconn, MediaTek, and Quanta Computer, SiPhIA aims to bolster Taiwan’s leadership in semiconductor innovation, targeting applications in AI, HPC, and telecommunications.
